Mulberry
The Shepton Mallet-based company produces much of its range from its local factories in Chilcompton and Walton, with an annual turnover of around £45,000,000.
The international fashion brand started from humble beginnings in the Mendip farmhouse of Roger and Monty Saul in 1971.
However it did not take long for the Sauls’ range of leatherware to take the eye of London’s top fashionistas and soon Mulberry bags were flying off the shelves at Biba and other chic West End outlets.
Now retailing a range of luxury goods and with its own stores worldwide, the Shepton Mallet-based company produces much of its range from its local factories in Chilcompton and Walton.
Roger Saul left the company in 2002 (he now produces an innovative range of organic foodstuffs) but under the new stewardship of the Ong family, the brand continues to perform well. Its recent London Fashion Week bash was attended by such luminaries as Lilly Allen; Peaches Geldof; Perez Hilton; Zadie Smith and the Arctic Monkeys.
Mulberry has an annual turnover of around £45,000,000 and continues to develop new store locations.
