Shepton Mallet - the future of film?

Shepton Mallet will be hosting the first ever Digital Arts Festival for the South West, with a range of exciting workshops and talks bringing together a range of talented and celebrated film-makers to share their expertise.

Shepton Mallet is seen by many as a historic market town on the edge of the Mendip Hills.  Keen to prove that nowhere is beyond the reach of the new digital age, a group of local business people have set up the first Digital Arts Festival to be held from October 26 to October 31 2009.

The festival has been co-ordinated by a team of enthusiastic and well-qualified volunteers and aims to bring together new and established talents from throughout the West.

A creative mix of events has been planned including screenings of award winning short films, a band night to be filmed by aspiring local film-makers, a natural history evening in partnership with Bristol's Wildscreen Festival.

Friday 30 October will be £1 workshop day with training available on HD camera work, pinhole photography, powerpoint for artists, photojournalism.  To sign up for any of these workshops, people should log on to the digital arts website on www.sheptondigitalarts.co.uk.

The finale will be an awards ceremony on Saturday 31st for film-makers from the local area who have entered the competition. The competition judges include Edgar Wright of Hot Fuzz fame, Holby City actor Duncan Pow, BAFTA nominated Jayne Pow and BBC documentary maker Dominic Weston.

Don't miss the opportunity to see Mendip and Shepton appear on the digital map.
