Snow in the Mendips
After heavy snowfall, businesses are finding different ways to keep going.
Local businesses are coming up with creative ways to maintain a service to their customers in the Mendip area.
Main roads are clear, but residential areas remain treacherous and many local schools were closed on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th January.
With all the new technology available to businessses and the good coverage of broadband in the Somerset area, there is no need for business to grind to a halt if staff find themselves unable to reach their desks in person.
Frome based web marketing company, Tickbox marketing, are an excellent example of a company using technology to good effect.
They have invested in a specialised phone service so that customers calling them over the last couple of days have been diverted to home bases of staff who live all over the picturesque Mendip area. The service makes use of VOIP and other internet based technology which keeps it cost effective. Tickbox Marketing also use the internet to access their network.
Claire Sully, director of Tickbox Marketing, who lives in a local village, said,
"It is great that our clients can reach us during a time when many businesses are disrupted due to the bad weather.
My team have responded really well to the weather situation and while they are safe in their homes, it is business as usual as far as our clients are concerned.
I believe it is important that all businesses, particularly those based in a rural location, use and benefit from easily accessible and cost effecitve technological solutions that allow for better and flexible working".
